Cause: Resettlement and reestablishing livelihood for a family of 18 in a Nairobi slum
Goal: $25,000
Community runs deep in Kenyan culture, where neighbors care for each other, provide for other’s needs and celebrate life’s joys together.
Baba and Mama Serah live in a small, two-room ramshackle structure in a slum northeast of Nairobi with their children, grandchildren and one special addition to their family of 18. His name is Mwangi.
Mwangi has battled a number of physical and developmental disabilities since birth. Mwangi’s mother passed away several years ago and his extended family refused to care for him. Baba and Mama Serah, despite their already large family, limited income and meager accommodation in the slum, would not allow this sweet boy to be abandoned. Nine years ago they welcomed him unconditionally into their family when he was 10 years old, knowing the challenges they would face raising Mwangi with his disabilities.
Baba and Mama have not always lived in a slum. In fact, they owned a large plot of farmland that provided a comfortable life for them in the past. Twice in their adult lives, their land was forcefully taken from them by violent thieves. They were forced to move closer to Nairobi into a poverty-stricken slum, barely making ends meet with Baba seeking work as a day laborer and Mama working odd jobs like laundering clothes or selling small commodities in a kiosk.
Their world could be brighter and less burdened with a little help.
We have an opportunity to give back to them their life and livelihood by helping them purchase a large plot of land away from the slum and city, build a modest house to accommodate their large family and help them regain sustainable income.
With the Lord’s provision, we are praying for generous hearts to join us in raising $25,000. Will you help us turn this dream into reality?
Make a difference and help us change their lives!
Asante sana na Mungu akubariki (Thank you very much and God bless you),
