About this Fundraiser

It's exciting…it's unexpected, and yet everything I could dream of. I am headed to Beijing for now to oversee the operations of a foster home very near to my heart…one that not only cares for orphaned children with severe congenital heart defects, but one that is working on the front lines of orphan prevention. I will be working intensely with medical programs and care, in fundraising, management, and development, and fighting for the broken hearts of the children who I will work with daily.

Over the last few years, my heart has been burdened for the children who are orphaned not by parental death…not by lack of parental care…but simply for lack of resources. In order to best care for and provide for their children, they are forced to make the most heart-wrenching decision a parent could ever make. The decision to say goodbye. Friends, this should not be the case. We should not stand by and watch this cycle perpetuate year after year, continuing to advocate for adoption and the plight of the orphan, but ignoring one of the very issues that necessitates orphan care in the first place. Poverty. Morning Star Foster Home has developed a project, called the Love Project, that partners with families whose children are born with severe congenital heart defects. Children who will not survive without intense surgical intervention. Families who cannot afford the costs of this medical care, who would otherwise turn to the abandonment as the only chance for hope…for life…for their precious son or daughter.

This should not be their story. Those children should not become yet another statistic in the orphan care world. If we say we care for orphans, our fight should include family preservation…at all costs. Morning Star is stepping in, helping to bridge the financial gap, making children's hearts whole and protecting families in the process. I will be fighting and advocating for this with all my heart, and it's my hope and prayer that you'll join me.

This was not on my radar. This was not what I had planned in the neat little 10 Years In The Future document I have saved on my computer. It's scary, a huge financial risk, and completely impractical…but I'm learning that God is not calling me to live practically. Jesus didn't live practically; He lived radically.

Your support will enable me to live and work on the ground, advocating for surgeries, furthering partnerships, and helping to bring hope to these precious children and families. I can assure you that it is good work. That this is a fight you should join, and one that will change your heart as deeply as it has changed mine. Your donations are tax-deductible, and will go 100% towards furthering the mission of Morning Star Foster Home, by enabling me to live and work for these I hold so dear. Please contact me by email (meretoering@gmail.com) if you have any questions or would like to hear more…I would love to talk more with each and every one of you.

Most important of all, I would love your support through prayer. Thank you all for the impact you have had on my life…you are truly priceless. As EE Cummings wrote in a poem I absolutely love, i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart), it is my hope and prayer that I will carry the hearts of all you with me to China, and in return, you will hold so tenderly my own heart and the ones of those I love. And that in the end? We'll all be changed.

Grace and peace; love and hugs,

Meredith
