The first major step in an adoption is to complete a home study by an adoption agency. This is a process of about 5 home visits made my a social worker to assess my 
candidacy as an adoptive parent and preparedness to adopt a child. This information is written up and added to a dossier along with an in-depth background check, fingerprints, and medical reports to be sent to Bulgaria.
