Father-Daughter Team to Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro!!
We are very excited to begin training for our next adventure. January 30, 2018, we begin an 8 day climb to the top of Africa to raise funds for college scholarships to support men and women that otherwise wouldn't be given the opportunity to educate themselves. This will provide them the means to rise up and support their community through entrepreneurial and spiritual endeavors. We believe everyone deserves to receive an education.
As you follow our journey to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, you will be given many updates that show our progress as a team for our fundraising goal. It's real results that impact real lives!
Africa has always held a special place in our hearts. From our first sponsored child over 10 years ago to our first visit as a family to Rwanda in 2012, Rwanda is a place of personal connection for us. We have seen lives transformed by the generosity of others and this climb is another opportunity to change lives.
Why Kilimanjaro?
The idea to climb Kilimanjaro came from our good friend, Bob Conlin. Initially, it was a seed of an idea but the more we prayed and thought about it, that seed sprouted and plans blossomed into reality. We love the idea of raising awareness and funds for college scholarships for these deserving young men and women in the country we have come to love.
In addition, there are a few other angles at play here...(1) We get to climb as a father-daughter team...Doug and Payton! (2) Doug turns 50 two weeks after we summit...what a great way to celebrate entering the next decade of my life and (3) We're ready for the next big challenge!!
Why College Scholarships?
Education is so important, especially in Rwanda and particularly for women, as well as men. Payton will enter college next year and her sister, Lexi, is a junior at Wheaton College. As a parent, I am a strong believer in the growth and experience that happens during those years at college. I want these Rwandan students, who worked so hard in their elementary and secondary studies, to be able to continue into college.
$19,341?
This is why we picked an aggressive fundraising goal...$1 for every foot we will climb to the top of Kilimanjaro! It's an aggressive goal for a worthy cause!! How many feet will you partner with us? (100% of your donations go toward the college scholarships as we are paying for the entire cost of the trip on our own)
Just like every step we take will get us closer to Uhuru Peak, every donation you make will help us reach our fundraising goal :)
There are many ways you can join us: pray for us daily, share our fundraising page with your friends, and consider making a donation.
Thank you for helping us make a difference!
