Ending the Ethiopian orphan crisis through family preservation, child reunification, and local adoption.

About This Field Partner

Kidmia is an advocate for the fatherless and families in Ethiopia. We lead the way in progressive models of indigenous orphan care in partnership with the local church, providing the basics of life we all long for: family, nutrition, education, health care, sustainability, hope. We both create new families through adoption and ensure that existing families have a chance to remain intact, not having to make the impossible and unjust decision of which children they can afford to keep.

In Amharic, the language of Ethiopia, kidmia means priority. Our priority is the orphaned and vulnerable children of this rich and beautiful nation. We empower families to prevent kids from becoming orphans, we reunify orphaned children with extended family, and we facilitate local adoptions to provide an orphaned child with a forever family and a home.

  • At our Child Transition Centers, Kidmia provides comprehensive care for orphans and vulnerable children until they can be adopted into gospel-loving, permanent homes or reunited with family members.
  • Our Seed Adoption conferences have trained thousand of pastors and community leaders on the relationship between fatherlessness, the orphan, the gospel, and the local church.
  • Kidmia developed the in-country adoption process, facilitating the first legal, local adoption in Ethiopia's history.
  • Our child sponsorship programs empower hundreds of children and their families to remain together and move toward sustainability.
  • We partner with families, local churches, and communities to advocate for holistic and sustainable orphan care across a nation.
