December Update Posted about ago

Hey friends!!

An update is overdue, and I have a few minutes and thought I'd write about where we are as a team, leading up to this trip.

My mind is a bit all over the place so I'll just share some bullet point thoughts. . .

1. Our team has been meeting about once a month. It's been cool because at our last meeting, we took a little while to get started, but were all having a fun conversation, and you can tell we're already starting to bond as a team. I can't wait to see how we all get to know each other and grow together, not only in Kenya, but before and after.

2. We are getting to know more about what we will be doing in Kenya during our time. We just found out we will likely get to plant some fruit trees. Let me remind you, this community just got a well last year. Imagine, just for a moment, not having access to water on demand. Crazy, right? These people are becoming self-sustaining, and bringing in income for their organization, because they have WATER. It's amazing. So some of what we will be doing is helping with the fields that are there. We will have several opportunities to spend time at the children's home. Some of that will be structured volunteering, but a lot of it will be pouring out as much love to as many kids for as long as we can. Doesn't get better than that. I can't wait. We've also been talking about the school that we will be visiting. We will teach a couple classes and do a sports camp for the students, and I'm pumped about that. We need to create the lessons we will be doing there, so lots of brainstorming is happening among the group.

3. We have our flights booked!!

4. To go to Kenya we each have to have a yellow fever shot, and taking malaria pills is suggested. I will do both. Yellow fever shots last for ten years, and of course my last dose was ten years ago. This vaccine is in a bit of a shortage, so it's going to be expensive (like, over $300!) and it's not too easy to find. Malaria pills shouldn't be an issue, and I'm actually going to see if my insurance might cover that for me.

5. I have my passport and tonight I'm applying for my visa! We actually were all supposed to have applied by the end of last week, but I'm just not always the most on top of things these days.

With those updates shared, please keep praying for us as a team. We have a few more meetings and will need to be doing some hands-on preparation for the trip in our next meeting times.

Additionally, I still have a ways to go with fundraising. I'm super thankful for those who have already contributed and joined in with me on this journey. I'm really excited about the impact this trip will have on our team and those we are going to spend time with while in Kenya. If you're interesting in contributing to the cost of this trip, please click on the donate button on this site. With the cost of the visa and yellow fever shot being additional costs to the overall costs, I'm really grateful that I'm doing this with the support of so many and not trying to do it all on my own!
There also will be some specific ways you can donate funds to materials and items we will be bringing with us to leave with the children and ministry leaders in Kenya. More on that to come, but also feel free to ask and I'll tell you some of things I know so far.

Thanks for reading :) As February gets closer and closer, my excitement is growing, along with the anticipation and some nerves, too. God is already teaching me things just in the preparation for this time and I'm so thankful. I can't wait to share more in the months to come.
