Hi, I'm Kayla Vernon! I am in my third year at Virginia Commonwealth University. I'm currently studying psychology and minoring in Spanish, with the hope of going to graduate school for social work. When I first came to VCU I had every intention of becoming a pediatrician because I figured it made sense- I love kids and it pays well. Makes sense, right? Wrong. The Lord completely altered my original plan (which He's very good at doing) and I began to realize the pull on my heart to work with children who come from broken families.
I changed my major and began working toward this new dream. During my time here I have grown immensely in my faith and learning how to not only accept Christ's love for me, but also how to share it with others. Just a couple of months ago I had no idea how I was going to spend my summer, but I knew I wanted to serve Him somehow. I was reminded of Abram in Genesis when the Lord says to him, "Go from your country, your people, and your father's household to the land that I WILL show you." Not the land He had already shown Him. He hadn't told Abram where he was going yet, but He told him that he wouldn't be alone.
I truly believe with my entire heart that God has opened these doors for me to work alongside Serve South Africa with an incredible team of people who desire nothing more than to see His love spread. I invite you to please join me on this adventure of mine in any way possible, whether it be through prayer, finances, or encouragement throughout this process. Every little bit means so much!
