Right now, we are in the thick of the second step of the adoption process, which is the home study...
This consists of lots of paperwork (think applying for a mortgage), child abuse clearances, FBI fingerprint clearances, references, physician's reports, CORE training (more on that later) and interviews both in our home and outside of our home. All of this needs to be completed and 'passed' before we can start the matching process with a birth mother. We also need proof of an acceptable home study in order to apply for adoption grants, which will be crucial for getting the funds we need to bring home baby.
If I had to guess, I would say we are 75% complete with the home study. We are hoping that we can officially be approved by the end of the year or early next year. This means, hopefully, baby Jones will be with us in 2018!
In addition to the Home Study, we are also working to get our home ready. Since we already have a nursery, we are going to be moving Braydon into the room next door... a big boy room! He is very excited because he got to pick the theme. Naturally he choose trucks / construction site. I will post photos and an update once we are complete. Our goal is to have Braydon moved into his new room and adjusted to sleeping in a twin bed in lieu of a crib by the time the home study is done. This way, the nursery will be set up and ready to go for the new baby without Braydon feeling like he is getting evicted.
The nature of adoption (at least in our case) is that we could get matched with a birth mom at any point during her pregnancy and be there at the hospital when baby is born. The other possibility is that we could get a call that a baby has been born and ready to be placed immediately.... This possibility really excites me (instant gratification), but makes Corey nervous (logical). We really are a ying-yang. :)
