About this Fundraiser

I'm turning 11 years old on Saturday, April 20th, and I would to raise at least $300 to donate toward Heifer International as part of our class project.

WOULD YOU HELP ME MEET THIS GOAL?

I am a 5th grade student at Providence Academy, and our class decided to help support a charity. We voted as a class and decided on Heifer International, a charity that supports adults and children in poverty, tries to end world hunger, and cares for the Earth.

You probably know that I used to live in Rwanda, a small country in Africa. Heifer works in Rwanda, too. When we lived in Rwanda, I helped my dad provide therapeutic peanut butter to kids who were malnourished. Here's a video that we made one day when I went to a village called Rwaza.

I also learned that helping families get animals can really help their kids not to become malnourished. And Heifer is famous for helping provide families with animals like chickens, goats, and (of course) cows. So supporting Heifer helps them help more families. I learned this about chickens:

  • A flock of chicks can help families add nourishing, life-sustaining eggs to their inadequate diets. The protein in just one egg is a nutritious gift for a hungry child. Protein-packed eggs from even a single chicken can make a life-saving difference.

  • Heifer helps many hungry families with a starter flock of 10 to 50 chicks. A good hen can lay up to 200 eggs a year - plenty to eat, share or sell. With Heifer recipients' commitment to pass on the offspring and training, the exponential impact of adding chickens to communities in poverty is truly a model that helps end hunger and poverty.

  • Because chickens require little space and can thrive on readily available food scraps, families can make money from the birds without spending much. And chickens help control insects and fertilize gardens.

As you can see, chickens are important for many reasons. And Heifer is a really good charity to support. So, I would be really excited if you would you help me and our class to support Heifer's work in Rwanda and other places around the world.

Thank you!
