I'm going to Uganda with Hope Speaks!

Hope Speaks is a wonderful ministry to help children with disabilities in Kampala, Uganda. 1 in 7 children are living with a disability. Their main ministry is providing Speech Therapy to hundreds of these children. They teach them to swallow, chew, understand and express language, and so much more. Many of the volunteers are Speech Language Pathology grad students, as well as Speech Therapy professionals. This will help them reach many more children with these services.

Hope Speaks has gone beyond that and also includes hosting other groups who help with projects, food for families, children's day camps, and going and serving in the slums.

I have had the calling to go on mission trips for the past couple of years which I have absolutely loved taking part in but l also have had the calling to not only do mission work but specifically using what I am trained in through mission work. With Hope Speak I will get to serve (which I love) while also using something I am specially trained in (Speech Language Pathology), SO EXCITING!! I will be in Uganda starting July 22nd-August 5th and will be working in a variety of places from the slums, clinics, and schools through out my stay.

Children with disabilities in Uganda are often hidden away from society, abused, and sometimes even killed. Across Africa, as is the case in many developing countries, there is a significant lack of information and education about disabilities. The work of JoinHopeSpeaks focuses on providing speech therapy; advocating; educating; and training parents, organizations, and up-and-coming speech therapists working with children with communication challenges. Through these trainings, they equip Ugandans with the knowledge and skills they need to encourage speech and language development for their children.
