The village of San Juan is located in the mountains to the west of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. It’s over an hours drive to the nearest town and there’s no electricity or running water.
All of the water they use comes from the river, either by a series of hoses or someone will actually have to take a bucket and walk down to the river to get it and carry the heavy bucket of water back up through the mountains to their homes.
When it rains, the water in the river becomes muddy and full of dirt, making it unusable.
Corn is the staple food of almost every meal they make, so without clean water, they cannot drink it and they cannot cook or make food with it either!
The animals also use the river to drink, bath and use the bathroom in, so even when the water appears to be clear, it’s still full of microorganisms and worms that can make people deathly sick.
So what is the solution? Electricity free water filters!
The water filters we will use are Sawyer water filters, some of the best in the world!
It uses a 5 gallon bucket and a water filter kit to put it all together and can last for up to 30 years! Normally the filter kit alone cost around $60 but Sawyer is giving us a good deal because we are using them to help people so for only $50 each, we can purchase the kit, transport it to Honduras, buy the 5 gallon bucket there in country, and provide clean water for 1 family for up to 30 years! What a deal!
I believe we can bring clean water to the entire village of San Juan and change the lives of so many people. Will you join me in making this happen?
