Sitting in church last year, we listened to numerous missionaries share story after gut-wrenching story of their visits to orphanages and poverty-struck villages in African countries.  One orphanage had so little food that they would start feeding the children from youngest to oldest and work their way up in age until the food ran out.  Some weeks, the older children went three or more days without any food.  The missionaries found out that the older children had been caught sniffing glue to numb the hunger pains. Not only did we hear these stories, but we were able to see videos of the trips and some pictures of children.  Some of them with big beautiful smiles and huge chocolate eyes that seemed to hold a glimmer of hope. It didn't feel like I was seeing these children on a screen; it felt like they were standing right in front of me.  When I looked at their eyes, they reached deep down into my very core.  I was wrecked!  I couldn't stop the flood of tears and I sat quietly, feeling the Holy Spirit doing a work in me.  Brian turned to me and said, “You ready to go get some babies”? 

I have always had the heart and a desire to adopt a child who did not have a family; it just never seemed like the right time.  Well, I've learned that it’s all about God’s timing. This time it wasn't just my own desire, but a true calling.   We could no longer sit, watch, and hear about the tragedies in the world and pretend it wasn't happening.

Believe me I questioned whether God was sure He was calling us.  “Are you sure, Lord?  We are a blended family. We have eight children together, three still at home.  We are almost as old as Abraham and Sarah in the Bible!”  Our insecurities, doubt, and excuses could go on and on.  “Yes YOU,” was our Lord’s answer and it was unmistakable.  He broke our hearts for what breaks His. 

They say it takes a village to raise a child.  Well it certainly will for us!

We are adopting Two Children from a childrens rescue home in Uganda.  Our children are 7 and 10 years old.  A girl and a boy.  Both of our children have special medical needs.  For us to complete the adoption, we need to raise $12,000.00.  This is a time-sensitive situation as we are due in court next month.
