Help Portrait is a global, non-profit organization that oversees the coordination of professional portrait sessions and portrait printing for those in need during the holiday season. For individuals and families in-need, the cost of professional photography is prohibitive to their accessing this luxury. However this luxury is one many of us take for granted: the ability to have and give portraits of your family around the holidays. Therefore, the idea behind Help Portrait is simple: find someone in need, take their picture, and provide them with professional print(s), free of charge.

December 7, 2013 will mark the fifth year we have organized a Help Portrait Event in Salt Lake City and assisted with many events across the state, with the goal of giving back to our local community through portraiture. These annual events could not exist without collaboration from a network of private donors and community partners from the Salt Lake area.

In addition to the portrait session and printed portrait that each family receives, Help Portrait Salt Lake also provides the household with a CD with all the pictures from their portrait session. The families can use this CD to print re-prints, holiday cards, to upload for social media sharing, and much more.

This CD provides yet another service to the families we serve. Because we focus our outreach for Help Portrait Salt Lake events to low-income households, these pictures provide a low-no cost gift for families to give during the holiday season. At a time of year when people historically disregard their budgets, this option provides a fiscally responsible and sentimental gift option. Many of our past participants have commented on how proud they are to be able to give such a beautiful gift during the holiday season.

Since 2009, generous support and participation in the events have accomplished so much for Salt Lake individuals and families in need:

· 11 Help-Portrait events coordinated in the Salt Lake and Wasatch front area.

· 4300 people served with a free photo session with a professional photographer

· 900+ printed 8x10 portraits given to participating households free-of-charge

Help Portrait Salt Lake organizes their outreach in partnership with the Housing Authority of the County of Salt Lake. This partnership ensures that Help Portrait Salt Lake’s mission of serving “those in need” is accomplished. Many households that we photograph include single mothers/fathers with their children, homeless families, refugee families, disabled adults and children, veterans. All of the households we outreach to are designated low-income.

As we gear up for another annual event, we hope you will consider a donation to support Help Portrait Salt Lake in helping those in need this holiday season. A donation of even $20 would go a long way towards us reaching our goal.

Help Portrait Salt Lake anticipates serving 100 households in-need on December 7, 2013; your donation can help make this goal a reality. While 100 households may seem low the number of individuals is anticipated to be over 400! Our fundraising efforts also assist other Utah events so our count could exceed 1000 across the state.

100% of donated funds will be used toward overhead costs of the 2013 Help Portrait event. Some examples include: printing outreach flyers, facility and equipment rental, the cost of CDs and cases provided to the families and snacks provided to waiting families on the day of the event. All photographers and event staff donate their time, free of charge. Printing of the 8x10 portraits is donated by a local printing company, PersnicketyPrints.

Your monetary donation will help provide families in need with a gift for a lifetime; a gift that helps preserve memories for families, for their children and grandchildren; a gift that will tell the family's story.
