These children have conditions like clubfoot, bowed legs, cleft lips, untreated burns, and hydrocephalus. Without treatment, they won't go to school and will have little hope for a future. Many will die from their condition.
That's why CURE exists. We're a non-profit organization that operates hospitals and programs in 27 countries worldwide where patients experience the life-changing message of God's love for them, receiving surgical treatment regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity, or ability to pay.
Since our first hospital opened in Kenya in 1998, we have seen over 1.9 million patients, provided over 138,000 life-changing surgeries, and trained over 6,100 medical professionals.
Maureen, Executive Director, is a Compassion International Leadership Graduate who has traveled as a Compassion speaker sharing her amazing testimony of being rescued and redeemed. She completed University with a degree in Education and training at Living Hope Maternity Home in Ethiopia.
While in Kenya, Kristen (wearethatfamily.com) met Maureen, one of Compassion's leadership graduates, a former sponsored child. Maureen is 28 years old and speaks 5 languages. She is a child advocate on behalf of Compassion International and her moving life story has led to the sponsorship of more than a thousand impoverished children. She has worked extensively on developing the maternity home in Kenya, as the Executive Directore and has been called by God to this work.
In 2011, Maureen (while working at Mercy House) lost their precious sister and nephew within weeks of each other from their immediate family. It was a terrible loss and something she still grieves.
Today, Mercy House Kenya exists to support and provide alternative options for pregnant girls living in the streets of Kenya.
