You may already know her story: During the first year of Meba’s life, she lived with her mother. However, her mother disappeared just after Meba’s first birthday. The police and Bureau of Women, Children & Youth Affairs searched for 3 months, but Meba’s mother was nowhere to be found. That’s when Meba was referred to Kidmia’s Transition Center in the hope of finding permanent and loving family. At the time she had a slight heart problem but she received medical treatment and was growing stronger every day.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hailu Leta and his wife Mrs. Engedash Markos were praying about and had recently committed to adopt a baby girl from Kidmia. Mr. Hailu is the general manger of Agar micro credit association and Mrs. Engedash works as an editor for Evangelical Theological College. They have an 11-year-old daughter Tsenat, who is in 5th grade.
April 18, 2013, was the court date for Mr. Hailu’s and Mrs. Endedash’s adoption case. They appeared with their daughter for interviews with the judge. At the close of the proceedings, they had been approved to become Meba’s adoptive family. The court also agreed to change Meba’s formal name to “Esubedink,” meaning “precious.”
Meba and her adoptive mother have quickly bonded. Today they look more like a family who was reunited after some time apart rather than one recently formed. Praise God with us as He continues to move in the hearts of Ethiopian families to care for abandoned Ethiopian children.
