For the 27,000 directly affected by HIV/AIDS in Kitgum, many who were brutalized, infected and became 'child mothers', this clinic offers an oasis of healing and a place where they can receive treatment, care and support to live a healthy long life.
Peter and his family live near the village of Kitgum, Uganda. He was just 7 years old when he was taken to a nearby hospital because he was experiencing headaches, stomach pains and had trouble eating. He tested positive for HIV and learned he had contracted the disease at birth. Because little was known about the transmission of HIV in their community, Peter didn't want to tell his friends for fear they would treat him differently. Through Blood:Water Mission's partnership in Kitgum, the community now has access to the New Life Medical Center where many receive the necessary medications and treatment to live healthy lives while further reducing stigma. Now 15 years old, Peter feels well, enjoys his studies and hopes for the day he can share his status openly.
Join Blood:Water Mission and the work we are doing in Kitgum for people like Peter to have a long healthy life.
