The Hadzabe are the last hunter-gatherer group in Tanzania. Their daily lives are dependent upon their search for food and water. They are hunters at heart, but today their way of life is being threatened by the decreasing wildlife and the increasing population of farmers and cattlemen. Therefore, when game is scarce they survive off wild berries and the pods of the baobab trees. They consider the food of the land as God's gift to them. They have no respect for things that belong outside 'their world', Christianity is an outsider's religion.

The Datooga are a proud people, with a reputation as fierce warriors. They are resistant to cultural change, including belief in Christianity, maintaining a strong adherence to traditional animist beliefs and practices. Since most Datooga do not speak Swahili, the national language of Tanzania, and very few are literate, communication of the gospel must be in their own language, using the traditional media of story-telling and songs. The good news of Jesus Christ is very relevant to their needs, once communication can be established.

Finding The Truth

Recognizing that their tribal religions cannot provide the answers they’re looking for, the Hadzabe and Datooga are seeking truth and finding it … in the gospel. The Church, fueled by the power of the gospel message, is advancing as nationals take up the cause of Christ.
