Surprise! The Johnson family is adopting again! The Johnson’s have two sons adopted from Guatemala and Haiti. They are committed to international adoption and orphan work. This time they need help from the community. Here is their story:
‘We learned about Pavel, a young man with dreams of being a soccer player and the talent to go with it. He lives in an orphanage (not foster care AN ORPHANAGE) in a Latvia. He will age out of the system on June 28, 2017. After much contemplation, we are moving forward and adopting him. Unlike our previous two adoptions, we are not financially prepared for this one. In addition to adoption expenses, we must make 3 trips to Latvia - one of which we will need to stay a month.’
‘In Latvia children 'age out' of the orphan system at 16. What this means is that they are finished with academic schooling and are sent to a technical school for education learning to be a cook or janitor. What we think of as 'college' is no longer a choice. I could not imagine entering the real world at 16.’
