About this Fundraiser

I have officially started the process to adopt a child with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

EB has been a huge passion of mine for several years and has turned into my life’s work. EB is a rare genetic disorder that causes the skin to blister or sheer off at the slightest touch, resulting in open wounds all over the body. Orphans living with EB rarely have access to proper wound care supplies and are in dire need of proper medical care.

If you want to learn more about EB and why I am so passionate about it, you can read more on the “About Me & EB” page on my blog.

If you know me, you have probably seen this coming, but this is probably a huge surprise for a lot of you. You may be wondering some of the same things that many others have wondered and have asked me, such as…

Are you sure?
Have you really thought this through?
Why would you want to take EB on?
You’re adopting as a single woman? WHY?
Can you do this alone? I’m worried about you.
Do you know how expensive adoption is?

So here are some answers to those FAQs…

Are you sure?
Yes, I am sure. This doesn’t mean I don’t have days where I am scared or have doubts, but I am sure. It is well with my soul.

Have you really thought this through?
Yes. This is not something that I have opted to take on lightly. I have known for quite some time that I would one day adopt a child with EB. I have been preparing to start this process for awhile now. I have done extensive research on everything from the adoption process itself to insurance coverage of bandages to schooling to the future and everything in between.

Why would you want to take EB on?
God laid EB on my heart eight years ago when Jonah was born and my life has not been the same since. Over the last year He laid the cause of orphans and abandoned children with EB on my heart, which led to the incorporation of EB Promise. Orphans with EB are dying. And God has called me to do something about it.

You’re adopting as a single woman? WHY?
This is the time I am being called to adopt. And I happen to be single at this time. (More on why in the next question…)

Can you do this alone? I’m worried about you.

Nope, I cannot do it alone. But here’s a huge misconception: single/unmarried does not equal alone. I have a wonderful community of family and friends around me, both locally and across the country and world. It’s natural to be worried, and I’m grateful for your worry because it means that you care about me and my wellbeing. I ask that you take that worry and take it to God in prayer. If that’s not something you do, perhaps ask how you can be a part of supporting me through this process or after my child is home.

Do you know how expensive adoption is?
HA. Oh boy, I sure do know. Read more about this here.

You may have more questions, and that’s ok. I welcome them! I am at the beginning stage of adoption – just starting my homestudy – and the process will likely take 1-2 years. I cannot share anything about a specific child until I have been officially matched with the child (which will not be until further in the process, after I have completed my homestudy). But I am so excited, and I hope that you will join me in that excitement and joy!
