September 2018 Update Posted about ago

Hi Sponsors! We wanted to update you on what's going on here in Malawi!

Term 1 of the 2018-2019 school year started this week, yay! If you could sum up the last few weeks here at Esther's House, the word would be BUSY! The children finished up the Holiday Reading Program a few weeks ago, and then we all started gearing up for school making sure everyone had the supplies they needed.

3 more residential children (Isaac, Precious, and Nedson) moved on up to Form 1 this year.  That means they are now at boarding school in town and are not living at Esther's House anymore.  The Residential Family were sad to say goodbye, but everyone was just as excited for them to go to a great school!  We are excited to check up on them often and see them during their holidays!

We are also really excited about this term because we added some new afternoon programs here at Esther's House!

1. Counseling: Esther's House now has a full-time licensed counselor on campus! Each residential child will have at least 2 sessions a month, depending on their needs! The counselor has already met with every child so far and is building close relationships with everyone!

2. Therapy Classes: We've added more time for OT classes this year! From 3:00-3:30 OT classes will be happening now before tutoring for those with the most needs, and then from 4:30-5:00 everybody is in a "skills" class that is working on different OT activities such as Motor Muscle Memory, Balance, Auditory Memory, and more! We are so thankful our part-time tutors attended the OT training we held at Esther's House in July!

3. Agriculture Teachings: On Mondays, there will be a rotation in agriculture teachings from our gardener on campus. The aim for these teachings is to empower the children and their families in farming (and livestock raising) methods that will help produce more food for the year.

As you can see, we are staying busy here at Esther's House!
All of these programs are possible because of you and your continued investment in these children.
We can't say it enough, THANK YOU!
