Last Saturday, Fernanda, one of our Step by Step scholarship students, fell and fractured her foot as she was walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Due to the poor condition of the roofing on her house, the floor was wet and muddy from the rain. This made it very slippery and caused her accident. Fernanda is wearing a cast for two months and International Samaritan is helping her find a way to pay for her hospital fees in addition to the cost of fixing her roof.
Fernanda's case of "Housing Problem to Health Problem" is not unusual for our International Samaritan Step by Step students living in the garbage dump communities. According to the World Health Organization, examples of key housing-related health risks include respiratory and cardiovascular diseases from indoor pollution, illness and deaths from temperature extremes, communicable diseases spread because of poor living conditions, and risks of home injuries. Since the start of our organization, we have built over 500 houses to improve living conditions in garbage dump communities and resolve these health risks.
TODAY, WE ARE ASKING YOU TO JOIN US AND HELP US RAISE $3,000 FOR EMERGENCY FUNDS TO HELP STUDENTS LIKE FERNANDA. Your donation will help ensure the health and safety of our students and families. Please donate today!
