Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for you prayers, encouragement and financial support for the survivors of the earthquakes in Ecuador. This is an update from our national leader in Ecuador. Please pray as requested.
From: JM:
We thank God for
his faithfulness and to each of you for your prayers and for all the
support you are showing people of our country.
God has been very good, has strengthened us, and protected each member of our team on our second trip.
We started our
trip on Monday, May 23 and from the beginning saw the protecting hand of
God. A rock broke the windshield of our car, but thank God we are all
well. We arrived at Pedernales at 7 pm
and worked until 3 in the morning organizing medicine, food and
clothing we brought. The next day we visited an area called New
Pedernales. There are people sleeping in small makeshift tents with
plastic and wood. We
provided medical assistance to 98 people and the children enjoyed games
and crafts. In the afternoon we made an electrical installation in
Pastor JC's church. Now they have a small makeshift home with
bamboo and plastic. The pastor shared that new
people are going to church and at night we showed a movie.
On Wednesday
morning we visited the brother Alfonz. He is in the province
of Chimborazo and told us the story of how God freed him from dying in a
hotel
they had. The hotel fell and his 5 year old daughter who was there
died. He lost his business, his home, and now has a small business
selling plastic on the street. He lives in a hostel with 20 families.
His wife has a fracture in her rib and continues to
work with him, but doctors say she needs rest. We were able to provide
medical care to members of his family. His mom has a very complicated
skin infection, please be praying for them.
We
also visited a place called Coaque, a small fishing village 30 minutes
from Pedernales. There we also provided medical assistance to
approximately 127 people and also worked with children and at night we
showed a movie. There we met Jonathan. He is a baby 2 months old and is
very malnourished because his father is not working. They lost their
home and have no money to buy milk to feed,
please be praying for him.
On Thursday
morning we traveled for 3 hours to a place called Canoa, a town located
40 kilometers from Bahia de Caraquez. There we coordinated work with
Pastor
Fabio, who E3 had worked planting churches before. Pastor
Fabio started home Bible studies with people from the hostel and as we
had requested help for this place because they do not have health care.
Here we provided medical assistance until 10:30
pm to more than 150 people to travel after 2:30 minutes to the city of Manta.
Friday
morning we headed Porto Viejo. There we worked with Pastor Jose, who is the president of the association of pastors of
Portoviejo and a key person
in the work of E3. We served more than 172 people who are housed in the
church. Pastor Jose told us that he has a new Bible study with 60
people every Saturday on the soccer field, all are new believers.
During this day
we could share with our translators Portoviejo: Karina, Andreina, Lina
and Angel., They helped evangelize during our medical brigade to people
and children and in the evening we shared a nice dinner together. I ask
your prayers for each of the, as their finances are not good and they
are without formal work.
Furthermore we delivered 40 food rations, clothing and water in the different places we visited as well as to our translators.
After the last
two aftershocks some things have changed: houses that were in "good
condition" were damaged and others were "a little destroyed" were
finished falling.
People are very fearful and still sleeping in the streets.
Pray that:
1. God continue to use us every time we travel .
2. For more people to join this effort to share the love of Christ.
3. Provision of
resources: Medicines, water filters, electrical materials and
construction, financial, material for children's ministry.
4. For new believers and their spiritual growth.
5. Pray for the pastors of Portoviejo with whom we have worked before:
Pastora Evelyn: the church building and her daughters’ houses were destroyed.
Pastor Yulan : his house was destroyed. He has housed people in the church .
Pastor Ruben : requests evangelism materials .
Pastor Jose : lost his church.
Pastor Nery : many members of his congregation lost their homes .
Pastor Lupo : Lost house
Praise God we
are fine. Some walls in our house don't looking well after the second
earthquake, but, we are in our house. We need fixing.
Thanks God He always provide for our family needs.
Thanks again for all your support. We will continue to visit these places once a month if time and resources permit.
