The Exodus Road: Empowering Rescue of Victims of Human Trafficking and Sex Slavery in SE Asia
ABOUT:
* Coalition of 11 NGO's and Government organizations working together on cases of trafficking
* 30 undercover investigators, both National and Western
* Our team of investigators represents 622 victim rescues and 348 prosecutions
* We provide: covert equipment, operational funding, connections between government and investigators, training, operator counseling, information sharing
* We also direct a portion of all of our funding to support quality after-care facilities in our network
Project:
Covert equipment is crucial for the legal rescue/raid of places where human trafficking/sex slavery is happening. However, equipment is expensive and oftentimes entire national police forces do not have access to a single covert camera. Currently, we are working to provide professional undercover gear to the investigators in The Exodus Road coalition, including the trusted local police. This gear will document the evidence necessary to conduct raids and prosecute traffickers, thus making human trafficking and the underage sex industry less lucrative and much more risky for criminals, while providing freedom for victims.
Story:
We met 15 year-old Sarah in a brothel in Southern Cambodia in the Spring of 2012. She had been trafficked across borders by her own mother and her virginity had been sold two days earlier for $600USD. Our investigators were able to capture the video evidence of her sale, and it was this very evidence which prompted the local authorities to take action on her behalf and raid the brothel where she was being held.
In that raid, 8 underage girls were rescued. Currently, their traffickers are awaiting trial, and Sarah is being relocated to a quality after-care facility, where she will receive counseling, life skills training, and a new beginning.
Thank you for considering this project empowering rescue. Please check out our website for more stories from the field:
