5 months since seeing Samuel's face... Still waiting Posted about ago
Yesterday marked 5 months since we got that incredible phone call with the news of our long-awaited referral. It marked 5 months since we opened that glorious email and saw our son's face for the first time. We can't wait to share that precious face with the world!
In 5 months lots of things have happened, both here in Texas, and in Ethiopia. In Texas, we have experienced recitals, the end of Spring sports, a lovely Summer full of camps, the beach, family time and lots of swimming in the Texas heat. We have had the first day of school, the start of the Fall sports season, and it is now mid-October. In Ethiopia, Sam has grown a ton, he has mastered many developmental milestones, he has changed from a tiny 7 month old baby, to a busy toddler, and he celebrated his first birthday. And in Texas we are home thinking about him, praying for him and talking about him as a family every.single.day.
We have been waiting for Rainy Season in Ethiopia to end so that we could be filed for court. But this week Rainy Season ended, and courts opened, and due to a few unforeseen process/paperwork hurdles, we are still waiting.
In the adoption world, waiting is a guarantee, but it doesn't make it any less painful. Adoption stretches you and grows you in ways you couldn't imagine when you start the process (for us we entered this process in January of 2012, and we prayerfully will complete it by December of 2015- nearly 4 years later). But in the waiting, stretching and growing there is a beautiful opportunity to see God work in ways that you also couldn't imagine. Oh how He loves us. He loves Samuel. And He is working on our behalf to bring us together as a family. We believe this wholeheartedly, and while I would love to have a quick answer to some of the hurdles (more like boulders) that have been thrown in our path as we wait to be filed for court, we trust that His timing is better and more perfect than the timing that Chris and I could plan out. So we will continue to trust Him in this wait. And continue to pray, prepare, talk about and get ready for our baby boy to be home. We would love for you to join us in this prayer. We can't wait to share some positive updates!
