The WHY?I bet the initial question is, “Why not just try and have more kids?” I totally understand that question. I remember when Sarah and I were dating, we were discussing our dreams for family. Even back then, we said that the ideal for us would be 2 biological and 2 adopted. And the question that kept coming up which has taken on more meaning after having biological kids was, “Why bring more kids into the world when there are so many other kids in the world who…
…don’t have parents…
…don’t have a family…
…don’t experience or understand love…
…and most importantly and most likely, don’t know their Maker and Creator…
So the answer to the Why question for us is rooted in the Bible. There are several important passages and themes within it that talk about orphans and adoption. These are the ones that immediately came to mind…
James 1:29… Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. As followers of Jesus, we want to do the things that please Him. Taking care of the orphans and widows is a huge task, but adoption is our way of stepping out and doing something. Obviously, there are many other things that can be done to help the orphans and widows.
Galatians 4:4-7… But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. Romans 8:14-15… For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” There is nothing better in this life than to be called a child of God, adopted into his family by the work of Jesus on the cross. By that adoption, we can cry out to him as our Father. Within that relationship come the depths of love and trust and worth and grace and forgiveness and on and on.
It is to this end that we open up our home to a child that we do not yet even know. While we can give a level of love and grace, it is our desire to give this child the opportunity to cry out to his Maker and Creator as “Father.” A child who has not only been adopted into our own family, but hopefully one day into the family of God.

The HOW?Adoption,
nowadays, is a very expensive endeavor. Administration fees, legal
fees, travel costs, and procuring of documents, just to name a few,
add up quickly. Even after doing everything necessary to adopt a
child, one must still play the waiting game.
We
have partnered with Small World Adoption out of Tennessee in our
adoption journey. The decision was very simple. After reading their
statement of beliefs, we knew that this was the perfect fit. They are
not shy about their Christian beliefs and desire for the child to be
in a family with like values and beliefs. In addition, they came
recommended to us because they have lots of experience working with
ex-pats (people who live and work outside of their home country). For
these reasons, we are very happy to partner with them in this amazing
journey.
The
million dollar question...
How
much do we actually have to raise in order to bring Little Eggers
home? Rather than give you a precise amount, I want to share a story
with you.
George
Müller (1805-1898) was a Christian evangelist and a coordinator of
orphanages in Bristol, England. Through his faith and prayers, he had
the privilege of caring for over 120,000 orphan children. He also
traveled over 200,000 miles (by ship) to preach the gospel of Jesus
in 42 countries and to challenge believers to trust in God. In his
journals, Müller recorded miracle-after-miracle of God’s provision
and answered prayer:
One
morning, all the plates and cups and bowls on the table were empty.
There was no food in the larder and no money to buy food. The
children were standing, waiting for their morning meal, when Müller
said, “Children, you know we must be in time for school.” Then
lifting up his hands he prayed, “Dear Father, we thank Thee for
what Thou art going to give us to eat.”
There
was a knock at the door. The baker stood there, and said, “Mr.
Müller, I couldn’t sleep last night. Somehow I felt you didn’t
have bread for breakfast, and the Lord wanted me to send you some. So
I got up at 2 a.m. and baked some fresh bread, and have brought it.”
Mr.
Müller thanked the baker, and no sooner had he left, when there was
a second knock at the door. It was the milkman. He announced that his
milk cart had broken down right in front of the orphanage, and he
would like to give the children his cans of fresh milk so he could
empty his wagon and repair it.
After
a terrible cholera epidemic resulting in many orphaned children,
Müller felt compelled to call a meeting with a desire to open an
orphan home. This was a complete step
of faith.
Four days before the meeting, God confirmed it through the Scripture
- ‘Open wide your mouth and I will fill it’ (Ps. 81:10).
Müller
thus began the Children’s Homes with the
primary objective that it should be seen that God was providing all
the needs as a result of prayer and faith, without anyone being asked
or approached.
So,
we are taking a similar
Müller approach...
We
aren't making the amount known, but letting you know that we are adopting.
We
aren't sitting on the sidelines, but we are asking the Father in prayer to work.
We are keeping the faith, knowing that he will provide in powerful ways.
“Dear
Father, we thank you for what you are going to provide through the
Body of Christ.”
