According to the OECD Economic Outlook for Latin America 2018, 7 out of 10 Mexicans are living in poverty or vulnerability.  This forces parents into desperate situations which often result in children working instead of going to school and eating unhealthy food because it’s cheap. Children in poverty are easily led into drug and alcohol abuse, physical, sexual, and verbal violence, prostitution, early pregnancy, and indoctrination into gangs.  This describes the lives of many of the children prior to their arrival at Casa Hogar Elim orphanage.

We moved to Nuevo Laredo and the orphanage in December of 2017 with three main goals in mind: inspire the children to dream of a destiny beyond poverty, provide apprenticeships in skills and trades, and share spiritual truths and moral values, based on God’s Word, to nurture confidence, compassion and integrity.

Today, the children have unprecedented access to daily tutoring, reading and educational activities. The chickens and farm are producing, and we have many opportunities to speak Gods truth into the children's lives. While this is a great beginning, there is more to be done and we need your help.

$8250 Aquaponics. Replacing equipment and expanding the fish farm to include plant life will impact the quality of food the children eat and allow the orphanage to be more self-sufficient.  

$9250 Carpentry Shop. There is an opportunity for vocational training of older children in wood working; a skill that can support them when they leave the orphanage.  A workshop must be built, and equipment purchased to begin this effort.
