After three years we finally have a court date in Belize: February 22nd!
Once court is complete our attorneys will schedule visa interviews with the US Consulate in Belize. We will fly down prior to that appointment. Following the appointment we will be free to bring Saul, Diana, and Alex home!!!
This has been such a long process. It's such a relief to have some finality to the process.
Once home, we are required to submit quarterly reports via our Idaho adoption agency to the Supreme Court of Belize. After a period of one year we will schedule court in the U.S. and can officially finalize the adoption.
The only good thing we have seen in the process taking so long has been our ability to cash flow most of our expenses as we have proceeded. Unfortunately, there are some high expenses coming up, some of which are due now. Here is a breakdown of our remaining fees:
- International Adoption Attorney: $4,667.50 * (due now) [Monitoring Post Placement Reports, Finalization of Adoption in the US]
- International Adoption Attorney: $6,510.00 * (due within the next few weeks) [Certificate of Citizenship for each child]
- Travel Expenses: Depends on when we can book our flights. Estimating around $3,000.
- Idaho Adoption Agency: unkown
- Idaho Attorney: Around $2,500.
Total: $17,000
We wish we had $17,000 in our bank so we could just write them all checks today. Since that's not the case we would appreciate any financial support you feel led to share.
p.s. I looked into selling one of my kidneys, but apparently that is not legal.
