In June 2014, Awana invited several guests to come see what God is doing through Awana in Kenya. Over the course of a week, several children's pastors, authors, and bloggers would join the Awana team in traveling in and around Nairobi to get a firsthand look at what God is doing in Kenya.
While very few words can fully describe what the team witnessed that week, there were amazing stories of God's hand of blessing in and among what most of us would consider to be incredibly challenging conditions. The beauty of this week was to witness the fact that for only $10, Awana is able to reach a child with the gospel and engage him or her in long term discipleship that will last for years. Only $10!
The work of the leaders that Awana is equipping is incredible to witness. Yet another physical need became very evident at one stop at the Bible Baptist Church in Nairobi. In the words of
Rachel Wojnarowski, who was on the trip:
Here, Pastor Edward Murila and his wife Alice have ministered for over 25 years. Pastor Edward gave me a tour of their ministry facility, including the little addition at the top of the steps, where 10 children sleep because they have no other place to call home. One of the biggest needs for this Awana club is simply to have a cement slab poured in the courtyard where they play games. When it rains, they have no place to congregate together and run the Awana club games so they must try to improvise in the indoor space they have. While the Kenyan people are excellent improvisers, I was hoping that these sweet folks could get their wish. The estimate to have concrete poured in the courtyard of the church/school facility is $3700. Frankly, I wish I could just pay for this beautiful platform where God’s Word will be memorized, quoted and enjoyed to its fullest.Would you consider joining forces with us to make this concrete slab possible? We've set the fundraising goal by December 25 -- what a great Christmas gift to this church, its pastor, and the kids they minister to if we could make their wish come true this year.
This PureCharity campaign is organized and run by individuals who participated on this vision trip. Funds raised via PureCharity will be transferred to Awana to get sent to Bible Baptist Church in Nairobi.
