Hello!!
We are about half way through the trip and I want to give you an update on how things are going and things to pray for!
We arrived in Athens on Saturday and spent the next day getting adjusted to the time change (7 hours ahead), orienting with the team on the ground as well as orienting to the city and subway system. We are working with a group from the Antioch Church in the US that sends workers on long term (1 year) and short term (3 mos) trips. For the past year they have worked primarily in camps further north, and have come to Athens during our stay to work here. The other ⅓ of our E3 team split off to work in a different region, directly in a camp.
In Athens, we are working in the city streets, churches and community centers. The refugees are living here in large numbers, and in various living conditions, mostly in abandoned buildings (where parts of the team have been able to go) They have lost everything and suffered immense tragedy. I am struck by how their lives were so similar to you and I, but now a world apart from suffering and loss. Many of the muslim refugees are incredibly open to the gospel and any act of compassion and love. In the clinic, I cannot always give them the medical treatment they need, but they are so thankful for us being there, listening to them, caring for them and praying with them. This is a miraculous answer to prayer for the generations of christians who have been praying for them! We have experienced daily commitments to Christ, and we are so encouraged!
We have also encountered significant anger and sadness, as expected. I encountered a man with severe PTSD, who demonstrated physical manifestations of his disease. I know he requires significant medical treatment, but that is just not an option. He is a believer, and we prayed for God to heal him. Please pray for him also.
Yesterday, I encountered a man who lost everything and was angry at God, calling God a sinner because of the suffering he has experienced. His heart is so hard and angry. He allowed us to pray for him before he left. He may return today, please pray for Reza.
Thank you for your prayers and support. This has been an amazing journey. Continue to keep this trip in your prayers. For wisdom, guidance, divine appointments, boldness, safety and strength. God is so good!!
Love to you all!!
