Since the start of the Syrian war, the ensuing refugee crisis has become one of the most difficult issues facing the world today. Combined with similar political, economic, and military conflicts developing in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan, Europe is now the epicenter for the world’s largest humanitarian crisis since the Holocaust.

Adjacent to the Aegean Sea, many desperate migrants pay human smugglers to pack them into overloaded rafts taking them from Turkey to the Greek coasts. In a recent estimate, over 3,800 have died in 2016 alone attempting the journey, a testament to the impossible situations they leave behind in their home countries.

I went on my first mission trip to Cambodia in April 2016, and it became clear to me that this was exactly what I needed to be doing at this time. When I returned, I started praying about and looking for the next opportunity. Over the following months God really started to put a love for and desire to serve those affected by the Syrian war and Middle East crisis. I'm sure we all remember the images of the toddler's body washed ashore in Turkey as his family made desperate attempts for a better life in traveling to the island of Lesbos, Greece; and the 5 year old Syrian boy powdered with dust, blood dripping down his face, and his eyes dazed at what he just saw at his home in Aleppo, sitting in the back of an ambulance. We will be going to Greece, to the very shores where the refugees are landing, and into their temporary tent-homes in the refugee camps. This trip fulfills my heart's desire, to serve these war-torn families, and share the love of Jesus with them.
