Isla update Posted about ago

The past few weeks have been quite the adventure.  Getting her through her withdrawl symptoms wasn't easy but atleast it only took about a week.  Isla was exposed to suboxone, nicotine, marjiuana and prozac.  We knew about this when we 'matched' with our birthmom because we had to be presented with all of the medical and social backgrounds for both parents.   Isla had  muscle rigidity, tremors, sneezes and yawns.  Because of the amount of tremors neither one of us could sleep soundly, someone was always up with her that first week.  We had to find ways to soothe her and it took alot of trial and errors.  Then we got approved to go home on 12/23 and came home 12/24.  Woohoo,  Fast forward she left MI weighing 5lb 12 oz and is now at 7lb 8oz and grew 3 inches.  She is currently going through a growth spurt eating larger bottles and sleeping more which is great.  We have been able to both go to bed around 9/10 and let her wake us up.  So we take 5 hour shifts at night so we both are rested.  Isla gave us a scare on 1/1 when she developed a fever of 102.5 and had to be admitted to Children''s hospital for the weekend where she had to get a full workup;  blood cultures, urine cultures, spinal tap, chest xray and a covid test.  Everything came back negative and it was ruled to be just a virus. We learned that any baby under 30 days old and a fever needs to be admitted.  It was nerve racking not knowing what the outcome could be since there are potential serious complications, but I put my health care hat on and put the emotions aside, whereas Merle could have cried or punched something at any moment.  Since being home we've seen her gain weight and her personality. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=10103658626844677&set=pcb.10103658627064237 She loves to smile, look at her mirror, play on her playmat.  We have nicknamed her our angry badger when she gets super fussy and is overtired, overstimulated or is hungry really soon after a feed.  She has her 1 month appointment coming this week and although it's been a long month, I love being a mom.
