Happy New Year! Our first day of the new year we slept in and then helped the family we are staying with clean house. I washed the many dishes from all the cooking the day before and they were very appreciative to have a clean kitchen once again! I also did laundry for the first time since I arrived in Kiev. I am thankful they have a washing machine and even a dryer. It is not typical for families to have dryers in Ukraine. Most people hang their laundry outside or place items on their indoor heaters to dry. In most apartments they have an enclosed outside porch and that is where people hang out their laundry. In most porches we see laundry hanging everyday. The family we are staying with has been to America and the wife learned about "drying machines", as they call them, and they were able to find a used one from Germany. In the evening they had plans to visit family so they dropped us off at a very large, fancy mall. On the top floor there was a play area similar to Chuck E Cheeses. We spent several hours playing games and earning tickets. Angelica sure had a lot of fun. Then we walked around the mall and had dinner. We saw a Pusata Hata in the mall which was the restaurant chain Jason and I enjoyed going to on our first visit to Kiev. Unfortunately with it being a holiday yesterday that restaurant was closed. We found another place that primarily served varenyky, pasta shells with different fillings. We enjoyed varenyky with chicken, potatoes, cheese and Angelica had some with mushrooms while I had some with cherries. Today was a harder day for me. I am really missing my children back home. I cried several times when I went for alone time in the bathroom. Seeing them and talking with them on FaceTime helped so I was thankful for that. Angelica also seemed to really enjoy her FaceTime with siblings today. Caleb and Mekenzie made her laugh and she enjoyed getting more of a tour of rooms. Levi showed her his Pokemon cards which provided conversation afterward about some of her friends and the cards they have gotten when hosted in America. It was sweet that Zoey asked for time to talk just to Angelica. I know it made her feel special. She continues to talk everyday about going home! God provided some nice shoes for Angelica today. We had been looking for shoes or boots because the ones from the orphanage are a little small and the ones I brought from home were a little big. She has alternated wearing the two pairs which has helped her feet but I wanted to get her a good pair of shoes/boots since we will still be here for over a week. All of the boots we have looked at so far have been too expensive so I have continued to pray for God to direct us to some that are a good price. Today when we walked to the mall we found a store where all the shoes and boots were on sale. She found a pair of shoes that are higher and could also work in a little snow. They were cheaper than what I had told God was my price limit and they even have gems which is really what Angelica wanted! God continues to answer our prayers and provide! This evening we went to the large mall again with our friends and we ate at Pusata Hata. Angelica really liked the food! After dinner we took a train ride on a child sized train around one floor of the mall. The driver of the train is good friends with the family we are staying with so he gave us all a ride for free. Angelica giggled almost the whole train ride! Tomorrow we are going with the family we are staying with to a Christian youth camp. The camp is part of Andriy's ministry work here in Ukraine and two days ago he received a call that two spots became available. We believe God opened them up just for us. It had been full so he had tried to get us into another camp which was also full. The camp is about 3 hours away from here. We will be gone until Saturday and I am praying God will use this time to work on Angelica's heart. Please pray for the many children who will be learning about God this week, many for the first time. Pray that God will use me to be a help and a testimony. Andriy asked what I would like to do and I told him to put me to work where I will be most useful. Pray also for our safety and health while we are away. Continue to pray for Angelica's passport to arrive next Tuesday so we can quickly get her visa and fly home. While at camp we will have very limited internet so I will send an update when we are back in Kiev. "But I trust in your unfailing love, my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord for he has been good to me." Psalm 13:5-6
