About this trip

Welcome to the experience of a lifetime!

We are super excited that you are planning to travel with us to serve on the ADRA Connections (CNX) Trip to Chapeltique, El Salvador! This is going to be an amazing experience and we will greatly improve the lives of the community where we will be working. Within the Dry Corridor of El Salvador, many farmers are struggling to survive with subsistence crops due to lack of water. We will spend the week preparing and installing greenhouses "macrotuneles" for 40 local farmers. Be prepared to dig in gardens, install pipes, put together greenhouse structures, plant crops, and assist in all sorts of farm/construction-related projects.

Key trip information:

Dates  This trip will take place March 11 – 29, 2020 during your Spring Break.  ADRA CNX will have staff waiting for your group on March 13 at the San Salvador airport (SAL) and take you by bus to our first hotel, which is not too far away.  This is where we will have orientation and understand the details of our project. If your group wants to fly in earlier, you are welcomed to do so; just let us know beforehand and make sure you're there to meet us at the airport on March 13.

Project Location & Living Conditions  The project is in a rural community located in the east of the Salvadorian mainland. We will be staying each night in a beautiful, local hotel in the community, so be prepared for basic showers, beds, and meals. We will have access to showers and bathrooms with running water, but we will provide clean water for drinking and brushing teeth, etc. Keep in mind that we will be working hard in a hot area, so come prepared for the weather. You can expect temperatures of High 95°F / Low 70°F. Bring a few warm clothes and a rain jacket just in case, but mostly pack hot weather clothes.

Group Size  This is going to be a very exciting trip because we will have four groups all working together, each arriving and leaving at various times throughout the two-week project. Georgia Cumberland Academy and Highland View Academy will work on this project for one week (March 11-22) and then Walla Walla University and Southern Adventist University will send groups to work on it for the second week (March 19-29). We expect to have about 60 in total, including students and adult volunteers.

Cost per Person

  • STUDENTS: $750 per person.  THANK YOU to our donors who make these scholarships possible.  The true cost of this trip is $1,500 which includes food, lodging, water, transportation, tourism, travel insurance, translators, work experts, support staff – pretty much everything you’ll need to go on this trip! SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: each student under the age of 26 who is studying at a school in the USA can apply to receive a $750 scholarship to help with the cost of the trip!!
  • ADULTS: $1,500 per person

Airfare and Fees  You will have to coordinate your own airfare as a group. The cost of the airfare will not be sent to ADRA as you will give that directly to the airline. The listed cost of this trip does NOT include any visa fees, passport application fees, vaccinations, luggage fees, or transportation to/from airport in the USA. Basically, once you get to San Salvador on March 11-13, we’ll take care of everything else.

Contacts  Your leaders will work directly with the CNX team to coordinate the group and travel details. Adam Wamack and Cassie Hales are the ADRA CNX trip leaders and will be your main points of contact for any specific questions you might have (students, parents, or anyone else are welcomed to ask questions). Once you register for the trip and start fundraising, you will receive the full Trip Guide with FAQs, a packing list and more details about travel and the location where we’ll be staying, so keep an eye out for that. We hope to see you there!

Ready to sign up today?

Register for the Trip  Registration does not require a down payment and everyone can use the link at the top of the page.

If you are from GCA or HVA (students and adult volunteers, alike), you will work with your mission coordinator to pay for this trip. Although you will receive a personal fundraising link for $1,500, you can disregard that fundraiser. Instead, we will send you a special link just for your group so that you can all fundraise as a whole. Use the group fundraising link to promote on your social media or for any event where you might receive funding.

If you are from WWU or SAU, you will receive a personal fundraising link for $1,500. If you are a student, you may apply for a service scholarship at  https://www.adraconnections.org/scholarships. Once approved, your total trip cost will be reduced by 50% to the scholarship rate. You can use your personal fundraising link to promote on your social media or for any event where you might receive funding.

All of you can start gathering your medical, personal, and emergency information and preparing for your trip. Keep in mind that you CANNOT use Pure Charity to fundraise for your airfare; that must be done separately, by law. You will also receive a trip guide with information about the country, the language, a packing list, vaccination recommendations and much more.

Thank you for choosing to work with ADRA Connections and to serve our beneficiaries.  We really appreciate the time, money and effort you are putting into this.  Good on ya!

 See you there!
