If you have never heard the song Live Like That from Sidewalk Prophets, here is a little snippet...
----
Was I love when no one else would show up
Was I Jesus to the least of us
Was my worship more than just a song
I want to live like that, And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do points to You

This part of the song really stuck in my head. I'm a big fan of personal growth books. If I'm being honest, I'm a big fan of audio books. I don't read. Like, I can read. I just don't like to. I also suck at writing, but you've probably already figured that out. In all of the books I have listened to about Justice, Mercy, Love, Kindness, Ideation, Entrepreneurship, nothing has made such an impact on my life and family as the simple question Was I Love. Over the last few years I have started using these three words to reflect and refine each day of my life.
A very important lesson I have learned in my life is that everyone is struggling with something. Seems like common sense right? Not so much. I thought everyone else was always crushing it while I was getting crushed by it. It wasn't until I started diving deeper into the lives of my friends, family, and random strangers, that I started to realize a pattern. Everybody hurts, sometime. ( Yeah, another song :)
I needed hope when I was going through it. I needed love. I needed someone, anyone, to care. It might have been someone to talk to, financial help, or as simple as a kind smile. Everyone around you is needing this love right now and if you walk by and pretend that you don't see them, you are missing an opportunity to be the love that they might need in that moment.
CONNECT, REFLECT, CORRECTSo the next time you walk by someone on the sidewalk or the next time someone cuts you off in traffic, the next time you see someone in need, how do you respond? Reflect and ask yourself... Was I Love?
When I post to social media... Was I Love?
When I walk by a homeless teen... Was I Love?
When I pass a coworker in the breakroom... Was I Love?
This is why we have chosen to adopt.
To be love when no one else would show up.
How can you be love?
